Brianna's ReflectionLooking back on all the work my group members and I put into Project Citizen I’m very satisfied with the final result. I have gained infinite information regarding the role of government officials and citizens. By going to a community Board of Education meeting I first hand experienced what it is like to take an active role in the community. I learned that even at the local level there are ways to influence policy and found it interesting to see how passionate local community members are about policies affecting the children in our area. It made me realize just how vital the right to free speech is because this is what citizens and government officials use to get their ideas out. Additionally, I researched and learned not only about PARCC Testing, but also about the different components that go into creating a standardized test, as well as the legal components that are necessary in making change to the current policies. I was able to experience how difficult it truly is to not only come up with a solution but make a solution that is feasible, constitutional and effective. I enjoyed this long cumulative project, because I was able to learn more about New Jersey's education system and the laws they must follow and the role of the federal laws in our education. If I were to do this project again I would not do to much differently because I used my time effectively; however, I would have planned out when I were to complete certain parts of the assignment and made sure other group members were working on the project too.
